About the Alliance for Independent Motion Media
The Alliance for Independent Motion Media (AIMM) is a network of media arts organizations determined to stimulate and sustain the growth of independent motion media production in Massachusetts. Current partners include:- Center for Independent Documentary
- Central Productions
- The Color of Film Collaborative
- Filmmakers Collaborative
- LEF Foundation
- WGBH Boston Media Productions
AIMM is pursuing long term strategies and initiatives designed to provide real networking and professional development opportunites for our resident artists and businesses, including convening activities such as the Boston Filmmakers Expo, monthly workshops, mini-grant programs and the filmmaker-in-residence program at WGBH.
AIMM partners have also been involved in the creation of a new member-driven trade association - the Massachusetts Production Coalition (MPC). The MPC has made significant progress and headlines for advancing the successful passage of tax incentive legislation for Massachusetts.
AIMM has also identified economic research as a primary goal in supporting systemic change in the independent motion media industry, which includes feature films, documentaries, animation, game development and new media. Be sure to read our newly published research report, LENS ON THE BAY STATE: Motion Picture Production in Massachusetts.
Enormous technological changes are impacting the way in which media is created and delivered. Media artists and the organizations that serve them need to adjust to a whole new landscape created by the internet, fragmenting markets, new technologies, and the changing balance between commercial and non-commercial media. The intent of AIMM is to create a new type of infrastructure to advance the creation and distribution of independent motion media in our state. Please engage with us in finding ways to make independent media in Massachusetts more diverse, innovative, financially successful and democratic.
